Carol desires for her clients to be seen with unconditional regard which begins the process of transforming pain into a healing process when one is known, heard and understood by another. She believes that pain that is not transformed is transmitted in our lives. Through her own personal and professional life experiences, she understands that we are most deeply wounded in the context of relationships so it is in the context of relationships that we are most deeply healed. She is an empathetic and reflective listener/counselor. Her passion is to provide compassionate, effective mental health care as she feels it is a privilege to journey alongside hurting individuals/couples so that they would not be alone in their suffering. Her aim is to move people toward hope and healing holistically by carrying and exploring their story with honor and dignity.

She approaches counseling holistically with a variety of theoretical frameworks which include person-centered theory, psychodynamic theory which focuses on attachment-based and emotional focused therapy and dialectical behavior therapy with somatic and regulating emotions. She believes in tailoring treatments to the client’s needs. She also has a heart to navigate multicultural (Asian-American) and generational backgrounds that have impacted individuals in harmful ways.

Carol has spent over 22 years in the education field as she began her career as an elementary school teacher in the Northern Virginia area. She taught for 7 years and then she spent about 15 years homeschooling and educating her three sons until college. Her husband, John, and she will be empty nesters in two years and have been married for 27 years. A decade of this stretch was on the mission field in NE Asia. She holds a Masters of Arts degree in counseling from Reformed Theological Seminary and she received her undergraduate degree in education from Virginia Tech. She believes that counseling is what she was created to do in this latter part of her life.

She has traveled, ministered and lived cross-culturally in many countries: Burundi/Kenya/Eritrea, Africa, Mongolia, China, Uzbekistan, Russia and North and South Korea. If she isn’t doing what she loves, which is counseling, she is busy in the kitchen cooking, organizing her home, reading (b/c she is a passionate lifelong learner), doting on her maltipoo, Lily, and going on date nights with her husband, John, or the other three men in her life.

Carol would be honored to journey with you by holding a safe, sacred and confidential space which would offer voice to the pain, space to exam, increased self-awareness and autonomy/freedom to choose another path.

Michelle received her Graduate degree in Mental Health Counseling from the University of Central Florida. Michelle feels, at our core, we all have the need to be heard and seen. Through her own therapy, she learned how grace can transform pain and heal trauma. Working through her own past helped her to see that she was living in a place of fear, instead of grace, thus solidifying her desire to help others walk through the healing process.
